THE DISCOVERY OF THE DOUBLE HELIX STRUCTURE OF DNA

The year 1953 was marked by the discovery of the double- twisted ladder structure of the Deoxyribose Nucleic Acid (DNA) by the American molecular biologist, geneticist,
and zoologist James Dewey Watson (born 6 April 1928) and the English molecular biologist, biophysicist, and neuroscientistFrancis Harry Compton Crick (8 June 1916 – 28 July 2004).

This discovery was a landmark achievement for modern sciences in general and molecular biology in particular and had an enormous impact on a large variety of scientific fields.

Thus, this important discovery paved the way firstly for DNA research, genetic engineering, rapid gene sequencing and later also genetic fingerprinting, modern forensics, mapping of the human genome and, in future, possibly also gene therapy.

Watson, Crick, and Maurice Wilkins were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1962 for their research on the structure of nucleic acids.

THE LIMITED EDITION DNA 1953 PIPES

The limited edition DNA pipes have been created and specially manufactured to celebrate the 70-year anniversary of the discovery of the double-helix structure of the DNA.

The DNA pipe is a Stand-up Quaint Cherrywood shape in Group 4 (4), fitted with a Sterling silver band engraved DNA 1953.

Each pipe is accompanied by a refined filigree tamper made from solid Sterling Silver that models the laddered double-helix of the DNA.

The highly collectable DNA pipes & tampers are presented in a prestigious leather-bound book and come with a numbered and hand-signed limited edition certificate.
