This pipe is a reverse calabash in compact dimensions, made from Erica arborea briar (even the colored versions are made of briar). Despite its reduced length, the bowl is generous and allows for longer smoking sessions. When removing the mouthpiece, you’ll notice that the shank is hollow, which is the essence of the reverse calabash system. This expansion chamber allows the smoke to expand, reducing heat and depositing moisture, ensuring fresh and dry smokes even in a pipe of modest size.
The mouthpiece does not detach like in a traditional pipe by turning the tenon and pulling it out, but instead is removed by simply sliding it up and down, thanks to the conical shape of the tenon. To reattach it, just insert it back and apply a light pressure. Cleaning is very easy: at the end of the day or after each smoke (depending on personal preference), just remove the mouthpiece and clean the inside of the expansion chamber with a simple paper tissue. Thanks to the wide conical bore of the expansion chamber, there are no inaccessible or difficult-to-clean parts.
Another interesting feature of this pipe is that the mouthpieces are interchangeable. In case of loss or breakage, there is no need to part with the pipe to send it to a workshop to remake the mouthpiece; simply purchase a new one. An extended mouthpiece is also available, sold separately, which will transform your pipe into a churchwarden.
Due to its simplicity in managing the smoke and maintenance, this pipe is particularly suitable for beginners as well. With its ease of use and simple cleaning, it is an ideal choice for those approaching the world of pipe smoking.
