Why BriarTour?

A whole month on the road touring Denmark in 1989, to explore, watch, and understand. It was during that period, in a small town in the south of Copenhagen, that we met Leo Børgart, a former policeman who was a skillful pipe maker. But this was not the only exciting moment in those days – we came across other people and things, and the year after we decided to go back on the road again.

This is how it all started, eventually becoming one of our most regular activities, our annual BRIAR TOUR. We hadn’t thought of the name yet, but we already had some ideas in mind. You never stop learning new things in the pipe world, and to discover something new you need to get around, getting in touch with new people, sharing experience and emotions. In this way the more you know, the more people you get to know, and the more people you meet, the more you get to know. The more you see, the more you want to know, and the more you understand, the more you get involved. BriarTour is a way to discover the secrets of the pipe and people. BriarTour is a professional, but also human experience.

Some ideas were already quite clear, but we couldn’t have foreseen how things would turn out back in 1989. Indeed, the BriarTour took us by surprise and we certainly didn’t expect it to be so successful and to learn so much. We also don’t know what to expert in the future. But today we are quite proud to have such  stong ties of esteem and friendship with so many master pipe makers, and this relationship means that we can offer a wide range of pipes individually selected at source. Not only that, we are increasingly involved in the creative process of making a new quality pipe.

BriarTour: the name came to mind, almost as a joke, in 2006. The year after we realized that this experience just had to be shared through photos and videos. The logo – the pipe on wheels – was introduced in 2011. The BriarTour has lasted less than a month in the last few years, but it has still kept its original spirit, and we still tour by car to reach the most remote parts of the country. The trip is always carefully planned, but there may be some improvisation if we find something new. Part of the trip is the joy of sharing our emotions when we get back, which we will do through MOMENTS, of course.
